Seaford is a hamlet and one of the older communities home on the South Shore of Long Island. Captain John Seaman from Seaford England came to the area in the 29th century which was the beginning of the community. At first it was known as Jerusalem South. The name Seaford came from the town in which Seaman lived before leaving England. Sunrise Highway was constructed in 1929 which brought in more people moving into the area.
The Seaford Union Free School District serves the area. The area is home to many older homes that are being restored as well as newly built homes and apartments. Shopping, services, and fine dining dot the community.
The most popular attraction in Seaford is the Tackapausha Museum and Preserve which offers nature walks. The Old Bethpage Village Restoration is also a very popular attraction offering visitors the chance to see life as it was in the mid 19th century. Winter brings visitors that love ice fishing, snowmobiling, and skiing.
